June 29th
The windsurfing and kitesurfing community is mourning the loss of Jay Runge, known to many as the Mayor of Third Avenue. He will be sorely missed because of his good cheer and his incredible generosity. Jay was lost after going back into the Bay to try and recover his kite which had gotten away from him. Unfortunately, it was some time before it became clear that Jay was missing. Once it was clear that Jay hadn’t make it back to shore, friends of Jay mobilized to search for him and ultimately found him along the shores of the Bay.
Through SFBA you can make a contribution for a Third Avenue memorial in honor of Jay by clicking the links below.
June 23-25th
King of the Bay is ON! Friday saw good 5.3/5.7 conditions, whereas saturday winds were lighter. Check out the PRO's video from day 1. Unbelievable mind blowing action! Rich, James, Arnout and Dave competed in the AMS. After the first semi-final Arnie was going for 2nd, Rich 3rd and Dave 4th, but the second semi-final turned things around: Dave 2nd, Rich3rd and Arnie 4th. Due to light winds, 17 year old Rio vista local Jonathan took 1st.

Dec '07: First '07/'08 winter-storm sailing,
Yes, we finally got what we asked for. Well, not really the forecast called for 25-35knts, we got 15-25, but still tons of fun inside the HMB harbor. A record nr. of people showed up. Good to know the stoke is still on in so many windsurfers. Loads of heavy freestyle tricks were thrown on the inside of mav's cov. Here is Arnie doing a forward! Thanks to Dr. Steve for filming

Jan '08: David Ezzy on kiting,
We found this very interesting article in which David Ezzy ventilates his ideas about kiting, kiters and the kite scene. Think what you want, but he sure is opinionated and that is exactly what we like: stand up for what you believe in. We don't do political correctness.

1/20/'08: A cold start
Though a nice 8ft swell at 15 sec was ratteling the buoys, we decided that a minus 2ft tide combined with upper ten to low twenties of wind would not really satisfy our wave hearts. So we headed out to 3rd ave, where gusty cold winds and a super ebb greeted us and several other die-hard windsurfers and kiters. Our endavours can be viewed here.
ps: exactly a year ago, 1/20/07, we did sail waddell, click here
2/8/'08: Whit Poor
Local Bay Area ripper, Whit Poor, the younger of the two Poor Brother's has jumped sponsors and is now riding on Simmerstyle Sails and Quatro International Boards. 5/12/'08: Good ol' Shotguns
Together with Kai and Ian, Arnie scored a nice day at Shotguns: overhead waves and 4.7-5.0 side-side-on winds. Besides the three of them, and Jay, nobody else was ripping up there. Brilliant! Steve Hamman captured Arnie on tape here. Below some screen shots:
6/7/'08: Good ol' June
June picks up where May ended:WINDY. It's been 3.0-4.0 winds all week again. Even Arnie at over 200lbs had to throw his towel in the ring...uhhhh 4.1 Icon.... when it got even too windy for him one day. But, for some of us it's never enough. Here's a beautifull photo by Steve Hamman of Linh Lam aka "Lin"; OPed on here 3.3 at Waddell on 6/6, but still smiling when she came of the water. Now that's the true ALOHA spirit. Isn't this paradise?
